Krissen Horta – Piano, Voice
Krissen Horta is a singer-songwriter and educator born and raised in Miami, Florida. Krissen began her musical journey in her early elementary years when she found her passion for music. Her professional debut was at the age of nine when she was picked as one of the top 5 finalist in a national talent contest for her personal rendition of Barbara Streisand’s On a Clear Day.
Krissen attended a performing arts school in her high school years which the school’s curriculum included a strong emphasis in jazz and classical training. She was involved in many choirs and vocal ensembles as in the jazz ensemble, chamber choir, madrigal, and the schools classical choir. She was accepted in the All-State choir and was part of University of Miami’s Honors Choir. Krissen took many leadership roles throughout her musical journey as a performer and an educator. She was chosen to be a music teachers assistant throughout high school which gave her the experience to teach middle school choir and high school choir at such a young age. She would teach the students music theory, techniques and the repertoire they were working on through out the school year.
Krissen also started piano training in high school, she studied through the national guild program for two years and kept her piano studies through out the rest of her musical journey.
She went a few summers to Los Angeles, California to work on her composition skills with a producer who has worked with Sony Music Latin. This gave her a foundation to start her personal music career.
Throughout the beginning of her college years she performed and was part of Miami Dade College auditioned Vocal Fusion ensemble where they went to Kalamazoo Michigan to perform in front of the some of the greatest jazz educators who all attended to go watch in Western Michigan University.
She’s performed locally and regionally, many cities in the US but also performed in several cathedrals in Paris, France while attending school. Her personal style is an eclectic blend of modern and contemporary acoustics. She is currently studying music business and jazz vocal at Florida International University, at the university she is also part of the FIU jazz vocal ensemble. Krissen has been performing in several venues around Miami, Florida and teaching student the techniques and variety of styles of music through voice/piano.
Krissen goal as an educator is to help the students learn these principles, to provide a comprehensive knowledge of music through performance, creation, and description.
